How to catch Pokemon

Step 1
Go around grassy areas and capture Pokemon. These grassy areas are found all over the routes in every Pokemon game. Weaken the wild Pokemon you are fighting with damage attacks such as Bash and status ailments such as Paralyze to increase your chances for catching as well as using high-end Pokeballs such as Ultraballs. After capturing a Pokemon, its data will appear on your Pokedex.
Trade Pokemon with other players. Pokemon appear only in certain colored versions of the games such as Mew in the first generation of games like Pokemon Red, Green and Yellow. Once you have received a Pokemon, its information will be automatically filled in the Pokedex.
Fight other trainers to see the Pokemon and win the battle. After you win a trainer battle, any Pokemon you have seen and were not previously in the Pokedex will be auto filled with information.
Attend official Pokemon events and receive promotional gifts that enable you to gain access to rare Pokemon. The types of rare Pokemon you can get at official events are ones such as Darkrai and Shaymin. Check the official Pokemon website to find the next real life event nearest you (see Resources).
Use an Action Replay for the Gameboy to acquire the rest of the data in your Pokedex. This is a cheat peripheral that allows you to input cheat codes to get the Pokedex data you need. There are times when people do not have certain types of rare Pokemon such as Lugia and Mewtwo; using ProAction Replay codes will solve this.
